It’s been a while since I’ve recommended some good listening. One of my Transom buddies was looking to expand her podcast library so she put a shout out to the group. Oh how delighted I am that she did. We got some amazing recommendations from the Transom family. I haven’t had a chance to listen to them all or even dip into many of them but here’s a few I’ve listened to and would highly recommend.
This is at times creepy and absolutely hilarious. Jamie Morton brings along his two friends as they read through, chapter by chapter, word for painstaking word, of his father’s adult fiction novel, Belinda Blinks. I can’t tell if it’s a complete piss take. I imagine it’s not. That his 60 year old father actually wrote it. And now here’s Jamie exposing his father’s ideas of sex and porn and the female anatomy. If you’re squeamish or a prude or both, don’t bother with this one. But if you like a giggle, don’t miss out.
This radio drama is written and produced by Lauren Shippen. Set in a therapist’s office, each episode centres around a different patient. A theme is slowly unravelled, through quality writing, that quickly hooks you. It is exceptionally unique in my mind and feels like it is going to reveal something quite dark if you stick with it. That won’t be difficult.
This comes from the people behind Feral Audio and is bound to be a doozy (i.e. great). Now I’ve only listened to one episode – it was quite intense and a little confusing because I didn’t know all the people they were talking about, buuuut, that was just episode one. The two presenters – Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark – are really endearing. They’re nuts and completely obsessed with horrendous and tragic murders. True crime stories. And if you are, I think you’ll love this podcast too. I can’t wait to listen to the next episode.
